WINTER ACTIVITIES WITH YOUR DOG IN VANCOUVER

If you’re hoping to find some fun winter activities with your dog in Vancouver, you’ve come to the right place. Residents and tourists alike will appreciate the variety of dog-friendly attractions the city has to offer. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you need to stay cooped up indoors with your dog. We’ve listed our favourite indoor and outdoor activities, so there’s always something to do regardless of the weather conditions. Before you read on, don’t forget to bookmark this link to keep on hand for the months ahead.

CANYON LIGHTS AT THE CAPILANO SUSPENSION BRIDGE

On a clear night, head to the North Shore for one of our favourite winter activities with your dog in Vancouver: Canyon Lights. North Vancouver, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge in particular, are already picturesque as it is. It’s no wonder Canyon Lights is such a special winter activity. Dogs are allowed in the park as long as they remain on-leash, so it’s truly an activity the whole family can enjoy together. We recommend heading up on a clear night so you can take advantage of the beautiful views of the city from North Vancouver.

PET PHOTOS WITH SANTA

No matter where you’re located in Vancouver, you’re sure to find an opportunity to take pet photos with Santa. Many pet stores offer this for at least one day during the holiday season, so we suggest calling around to your local shops. Some SPCA locations also offer these photo ops by donation, so you’ll be supporting a great cause with this heartwarming holiday activity. Just keep in mind if your dog is fearful of strangers, it’s best to skip this one.

BRIGHT LIGHTS AT STANLEY PARK

We love visiting Stanley Park at any time of year, thanks to its stunning views and central location. Bright Lights is a fun and festive holiday event with spectacular lights that you can only attend for a limited time. While dogs aren’t permitted on the train, they can come along for the fun. Going for a stroll to view the lights is the perfect way to fit in a winter walk with your pup. Kids and adults alike are sure to love the festivities, too. With over three million lights, this is a sight you won’t be able to see anywhere else.

GRANVILLE ISLAND + AQUABUS

Did you know dogs are permitted on the Aquabus? As long as they’re clean and leashed, they’re welcome to ride. Spending the afternoon at Granville Island makes for one of the best winter activities with your dog in Vancouver. Your dog will think so, too. Stop by the Granville Island Pet Treatery to pick up some healthy, delicious treats for your pets. Everyday, they make thousands of fresh dog treats on-site in their bakery. Their products make great gifts as well, so we suggest stocking up for everyone on your shopping list. Just don’t shop too early in the season, since you’ll want to gift their treats while they’re still fresh.

ON-LEASH AND OFF-LEASH DOG PARKS IN VANCOUVER

We’re lucky to have so many dog parks in the city. No matter the season, a trip to the park always makes our list for the best winter activities with your dog in Vancouver. It’s a completely free activity that, once again, the whole family can enjoy. You can read our Guide to Local Dog Parks in Vancouver for all of the details, but Spanish Banks Beach Park is one of our favourites, since dogs are allowed to swim off-leash. We also recommend Hadden Park in Kitsilano as another good spot to check out for your next dog walk.
