Depending on where you live, the perfect weekend getaway may be just a short road trip or ferry ride away. Since we’re based in the Lower Mainland, we’ll focus on suggestions surrounding our area. When it comes to dog-friendly destinations, we have to put Vancouver Island, Whistler, and the Okanagan at the top of our list. From luxury glamping, to cozy chateaus, to rustic cabins, there’s something for everyone. Don’t forget to check out our suggestions for camping with your dog if you’re heading out into the wilderness.

Make a day of it with a scenic dog-friendly hike. Hiking with your dog comes down to their health and fitness level, keeping in mind you should always err on the side of caution. If you live in the Lower Mainland, look into our Guide to Local Dog Parks for destinations in each city. We suggest West Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Abbotsford as spots with must-visit hiking trails. If you haven’t already, consider purchasing a collapsible water bowl for ease of packing.

Have you ever tried a dog sport, such as agility or protection sports? You’re sure to find a suitable option for any training or fitness level, which is why we recommend it as one of our favourite spring activities with your dog in BC. It’s a fun way to keep your dog mentally and physically active. We offer personalized training that can help with any dog sport, as well as our very own club, Superior Canine PSA (Protection Sports Association).

Help a great cause with SPCA Treat Week, benefitting shelters across the province. Through the Treat Week initiative, anyone can register to raise funds through selling delicious goodies to their family and friends. The SPCA will set you up with everything you need to collect funds. It’s up to you to get creative by selling homemade or store-bought treats such as cookies, pizza, or even coffee. It’s on at the end of February, technically a bit before spring, but we wanted to feature this incredible cause for you to check out anyway!

Puppy training classes are always in full-force in the spring. With so many people bringing home new additions to their family, we always suggest putting their best paw forward and starting obedience training early. Setting up good behaviours at a young age offers a strong foundation for the future, and it’s a fun way to bond with your new pet. If you’re based near our locations, including Maple Ridge and Abbotsford, then we would love to be a part of your training journey!

With so many great options, it can be hard to decide between all of the fun spring activities with your dog in BC. We’re fortunate to be surrounded by a never-ending selection of outdoor destinations to visit with your dog in tow. For those rainy spring days, you may prefer to stay indoors and cozy up at a dog-friendly hotel. Don’t forget that spring is the perfect time to begin puppy training classes. We hope you enjoy these new ideas for spending quality time with your dog!
